Obituary


Gladys May Kottler, age 97, of Clarion, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2004 at the USA Healthcare Center in Clarion.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2004, at the United Methodist Church in Clarion, Iowa with Rev. Don Morrison officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2004 at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home, 602 North Main St. in Clarion and one hour prior to services at the church.

Gladys M. Kottler was born July 14, 1906 in Swea City, Iowa to John M. and Anna (Langley) Kottler.  She moved to Clarion in 1910, where she  continued to live for all of her life.  In March of 2001 Gladys fell and broke her hip which made her move into the USA Healthcare Center in April, which is where she lived until her recent passing.

At the age of thirteen she was baptized and joined the Methodist Church.  Gladys was a member of the Grace Stockwell Circle, the sewing group, the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, the Heritage Club of First National Bank and the Classic Club of Brenton Bank.  Her hobbies included crocheting, quilting, knitting, gardening (especially flowers) and general crafting.

Gladys enjoyed spending a lot of time with her nieces and nephews.  She also loved traveling throughout the United States.  She had visited every state in the union except three.  When she was unable to drive any longer, Gladys took bus trips to accomplish her traveling goals.

Gladys is survived by 2 nephews, Charles Robert Stecher and his wife Gladys of Ottawa, IL. and John William Stecher and his wife Evelyn of Des Moines, Iowa; 2 nieces, Dianne Dorsey and her husband Tom of Clarion, Iowa and Dawn Kottler of Ames, Iowa; 15 great nieces and nephews along with numerous great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Acelia; a brother, Lester and a niece Holly Ann.
