Obituary


Gladys Marie Zeigler, 91, of Kanawha died Saturday, September 18, 2004, at Wright Medical Center, in Clarion.

Gladys was born August 6, 1913, at Cavalier, North Dakota, to Catherine (Jones) and Ernest Stead.  As a young child she was a victim of polio.  She received her education at country schools and graduated from Henry, South Dakota High School in 1932.  After graduating she worked, helping families in her area with domestic duties.

On March 21, 1936, she married Loren Zeigler in the Methodist parsonage in Clark, South Dakota.  They lived on a farm near Kanawha their entire married life.  Gladys remained on the farm until recently.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Kanawha and was active in church activities including the position of secretary of several circles until her health no longer permitted.

She will be greatly missed by nieces and nephews, Richard Harmon of Rapid City, South Dakota, Delores Kiel of Keuka Park, New York, Darla Gray of St. Morris, Idaho, Marjorie Hoagland of Columbus, Montana, Donna Nelson of Helena, Montana, LaVerne of Parhrump, Nevada, Harold Zeigler of Milbook, South Dakota, Jerry Zeigler of Bryant, South Dakota, Wanda Fistler and Judy Marquardt, both of Mason City, Darlene Webb of Chicago, Illinois, Terry Burns of Logan, Ohio, Yvonne Culbertson of Logan, Ohio.  Local great nieces and nephews are Marvin L. Johnson of Kanawha, Jan Johnson of Algona, Julie Peters of Kanawha and Kristy Allen of Belmond.  She also has several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Loren, in 1988; her parents; two brothers; and a sister; a local relative, Dorothy Johnson of Kanawha; Beatrice Hoffman of Bullhead City, Nevada; and six nieces and nephews of Montana.
