Obituary


Glennys Fleming Johnson, 86, of Clarion passed away Friday, August 14, 2009 at Careage of Clarion.

Funeral services for Glennys Johnson will be held on Monday, August 17, 2009 at 10:30 AM at the Holmes Lutheran Church in Holmes, Iowa with Pastor Stan Peterson officiating.  Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove, Iowa.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2009 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 602 North Main Street, in Clarion and continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Glennys was born in Clarion, Iowa on May 10, 1923, to James and Bess (Mariner) Fleming.  She graduated from Clarion High School and worked for a time at the Clarion Monitor.  The rest of her life was devoted to being a wife, mother, friend, and volunteer.

Glennys treasured her family.  She was very involved in her church and in 4-H.  

Glennys was a member of the Holmes Lutheran Church, 4-H leader and was on the Wright County 4-H County Committee. 

Survivors include three daughters: Jerilyn (Ken) Kay, Atlantic, Iowa, Barbara (Bruce) Palmer, Atlanta, Georgia, Jamie Hughet, Nevada, Iowa; one son: David (DeAnn) Johnson, Clarion; fourteen grandchildren: John (Angie) Kay, Jennifer (Chris) Brasher, Lisa (Chad) Williams, Jeff Palmer, Paul Kay, Anne (Clint) Johnson, Sarah (Mike) Gimbel, Kevin (Heather) Johnson, Brad Johnson, Brian (Mandy) Johnson, Pamela Hughet, James Hughet, John Hughet, Dan Johnson; seventeen great-grandchildren: Dylan Kay, Dan Kay, Anna Kay, Palmer Brasher, Lauren Brasher, Eleanor Williams, Owen Williams, Connor Johnson, Mackenzie Johnson, Emma Johnson, Skyler Johnson, Elizabeth Gimbel, Andrew Gimbel, Kierstyn Witt, Marcus Robichaud and Jade Robichaud, Brayden Johnson;  sister-in-law: Virgie Fleming; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, close neighbors, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Lawrence; her parents; sisters Nedra Fleming, in infancy, and Dorothy Collins and brother James Fleming.
