Obituary


Gloria Faye Ward, 80, of Britt passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital.

Memorial services for Gloria Ward will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 11:00 AM at First Lutheran Church, 70 Fifth Avenue Northwest in Britt, with Pastor William Rosin officiating.  Graveside services will take place at the Belmond Cemetery following the luncheon. 

Visitation will be held an hour before the services at the church on Friday.

Gloria Faye (Rabe) Ward was born on March 1, 1937 to Albert and Goldie (Mills) Rabe in Belmond, Iowa.

She grew up on a farm outside of Belmond and graduated from Belmond High School in 1955. Gloria continued her education at La’ James International College in Fort Dodge.

Gloria was united in marriage to Gene Ward in 1965. To this union two children were born, Bryan and Dawn. The couple later divorced.

She owned and operated Gloria’s Clip and Curl in Duncan for many years.  She had various jobs before retiring in Britt due to medical reasons.

Gloria enjoyed playing cards, reading, listening to Elvis, and her cat Louie.  She was a life long fan of the Minnesota Vikings and never missed a game.  But most important to Gloria were her grandchildren; having helped raise them will leave a lasting impact on their lives.

Gloria will be remembered for being a selfless person who always practiced what she preached, and for having a big heart. She was devoted to her faith and was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Britt.

Gloria is survived by her son Bryan (Leslea) Ward and their son Joshua, all of Des Moines; daughter Dawn Ward (Mark Fister)of Britt and her children, Brandon (Amanda) Cink of Woden and Morgan Amburgey (Bill Sherwood) of Sterling, Colorado; two great-grandchildren Diesel and Luke with two more on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Nadine Hill.
