Gordon L. Carlson, 67, passed away Monday, November 16, 1992 at Hancock County
Memorial Hospital.
Gordon, the son of Ole and Bertha (Ogland) Carlson, was born September 10,
1925. He received his education in Wright County. Gordon was baptized and
confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He had served as President, Vice President,
Board of Deacons and Trustees in various Lutheran Churches.
On September 29, 1948 he was united in marriage with Clarice Spangler, daughter
of Arthur Sr. and Clara (Tuttle) Spangler at the Little Brown Church in Nashua,
Iowa. They farmed from 1949 to 1980. After building a new home in Britt,
Iowa. Gordon went to work for Marting Manufacturing. In 1988 he retired due to
ill health.
Gordon was a Honorary Lifetime member of Kanawha FFA. He was also a Honorary
Lifetime member of Hancock County. He served three years for 4-H at Iowa States
at Ames, Iowa, four year on the Hancock County Extension Council, five years as
a 4-H leader in Hancock County, a early membered of the Britt Draft Horse
Association and enjoyed his grandchildren.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include his wife, Clarice; a daughter: Theresa and her husband, Gary
McNeese of Britt, Iowa; a son: Edward and his wife, Susan Carlson of Britt; five
sisters: Myra and her husband, Marion Birkland of Somers, Iowa; Clarice and her
husband, Burdette Thompson of Clarion, Iowa; Eleanor Jacobson of Eagle Grove,
Iowa; Shirley and her husband, Orville Olson of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; Ruby
and her husband, Glenn McCormick of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a brother: Robert
and his wife, Meri Carlson of Flagstaff, Arizona and seven grandchildren.
