Grace Stille was born the middle child of Hammond and Dena (Riekens) Ruter on
December 11, 1923. She grew up in the Renwick/Kanawha area with her parents and
two brothers, Ben and Glen. Grace attended Kanawha rural schools and graduated
from Kanawha High School in 1942.
On November 28, 1942, Grace married Virgil ("Buck") Stille, and they were
blessed with three children: Donna, Cindy, and Randy. For nearly 60 years they
farmed the Stille Century Farm together until their retirement in 1985. Grace
was a hard-working, industrious farm wife, canning and freezing produce from the
garden, sewing clothes for the girls, and cooking/baking for the farm crew
during harvest and baling times. She and Buck wintered in Weslaco, TX, for 25
years, enjoying the warmer weather and socializing with all the Klemme folks who
also wintered there. They also made several trips to Missouri and Kentucky with
the Country Cousins group. Buck died in 2002, and Grace remained on the Century
Farm for several years before moving to Garner, where she lived for the past
nine years in the little condo on the corner.
Grace has been a member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church all her life.
Through the church, she was involved with Ladies Aid and delivering Meals on
Wheels. She attended Britt CRC the past few years, and most recently she
worshipped at home watching the Christian Worship Hour on TV. Grace was
independent and resourceful, was Buck's right-hand gal on the farm, kept the
cleanest house of anyone around, loved clouds and singing, was good at
bookkeeping and typing (and always wished she would have attended college),
spent many nights watching Twins games, loved coffee time with her friends at
Bill's, and enjoyed the Ag Gals group when she could make it. Above all Grace
loved the Lord and wanted all her children and grandchildren to know Jesus as
their Lord and Savior as she did.
Grace is survived by her three children: Donna & Denny Schoenwetter of Forest
City, IA; Cindy & Tim Hubers of Shoreview, MN; and Randy & Donna Stille of St.
Anthony Village, MN; 5 grandchildren: Dawn Heusinkveld & friend, Kevin Opheim;
Kristi & Jason Drook; Dan & Mattie Hubers; Elizabeth Anna Grace Stille, and
Quentin Stille; 6 great-grandchildren: Brooke Heusinkveld; Hayden, Grace, and
Bella Wynja; Ava Grace and Willow Hubers; 2 step-great-grandchildren: Hunter and
Harper Drook; 1 great-great-grandchild: Evelyn Heusinkveld; her brother &
sister-in-law, Glen & Carolyn Ruter; and many nieces and nephews.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother &
sister-in-law, Ben & Florence Ruter.
