H. Paul Crockett

H. Paul Crockett, former voc ag teacher at Britt High School, passed away Tuesday, September 30, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:30 PM. Friday at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt.  The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Saturday at the Britt United Methodist Church.  Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Mr. Crockett was born September 4, 1909, in Burlington, Kansas. He received his early education in the Kansas and Missouri school systems, later moving to Ames, Iowa, where he graduated from master degrees in agricultural education and economics.

A life-long teacher, Mr. Crockett served school systems in New Sharon and Eddyville, Iowa, before moving to Jackson, Michigan, in 1937, where he taught junior college economics and coached basketball.  In 1946, Crockett moved his family to Britt, Iowa, where he taught voc ag in the high school until 1960.  His interest in students carried over into scouting: where, as scout master for Troop 32 he administered an aggressive advancement program that produced 22 Eagle Scouts in a span of 10 years.  He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a forty-nine year member of the Masonic Lodge.  At the age of 80, he became the oldest Iowa Mason to qualified as a District Lecturer.

In 1960, Crockett and his wife, Frances, moved to Minot, North Dakota, where he taught economics at Minot State University for 15 years.  When he retired in 1975, the North Dakota Board of Reagents granted him professor emeritus status in economics.

The Crocketts returned to Britt in 1975, where they lived their retirement years.

Mr. Crockett was preceded in death by his parents, Henry P. and Mary Elizabeth Crockett, and his wife, Frances, who passed away April 18, 1986.  He is survived by one daughter, Nancy Wallen and her husband, Harold of Britt; three sons: Paul and his wife, Georgia of Minneapolis; Dan and his wife, Carol of Astoria, Oregon; David of Fargo, North Dakota; a daughter-in-law: Judy Renee Thompson, John Crockett, Allison Crockett, Andrea Crockett Sticha, Karrie Wallen, Penny Brazzel, Paul J. Crockett, Lesley Warrens; five great-grandchildren; one sister: Mrs. Wm. P. Matthews of New Castle Upon Tyne, England.
