Harold Leo Sankey, 69, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 1997, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa. Harold, the son of Leo and Anna (Heidenwith) Sankey, was born on February 8, 1928, near Bancroft.  He attended country school in the Orthel Township and Britt Community Schools.  In 1935 the family moved to a farm west of Britt.  On September 4, 1948, he was united in marriage with Joyce Ann Hildman in Britt, Iowa.  The couple made their home in Britt where Harold owned and operated the family business, Sankey Sand and Gravel for over 50 years.  In 1988, they moved into Britt. Harold was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Britt. He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Britt; four sons: Scott and his wife, Lisa of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Joel and his wife, Pat of Britt; Greg of Quincy, Illinois; Brian and his wife, Alana of Waterloo, Iowa; a daughter: Sondra Lampe and her husband, David of Britt; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and a special cousin: Wayne Ditsworth and his wife, Jenele and their family. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, a son - Stephen, and a daughter - Elizabeth.
