Obituary


Harold Llewellyn Wintz, 91, of Clarion passed away at his home on Sunday, July 29, 2018. Funeral services for Harold Wintz will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at the United Church of Christ Congregational, 121 3rd Avenue North West in Clarion, with Pastor Bill Kem officiating. Burial will take place at Hitesville Cemetery in rural Aplington, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, August 6, 2018 at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue in Clarion, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Harold was born March 1, 1927 on a farm in Butler County, Iowa.  He graduated from Tripoli High School in 1944.  He worked at John Deere until he was drafted for the Army for World War II and was stationed in Alaska with the 3064th Ordinance Service Co.  He married Rose Weymiller in 1950 and was then called up for active duty for the Korean War.  He was stationed at Taegu with the 38th Ordinance Medium Maintenance Co. Harold worked in several auto body repair shops in Waterloo and Waverly until 1966, when the family moved to Clarion, Iowa, where they operated Clarion Auto Body until they retired. Harold’s hobbies included antique cars, stamp collecting, and genealogy.  He owned prize winning antique cars.  He had a lifetime membership in the Antique Automobile Club of America and was a master judge.  He was also a member of several other antique car clubs. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and three brothers. Harold is survived by his daughters Marie Kelch and Janis (Bill) Hellard, three grandchildren and their spouses, four great-grandchildren, sister Marla Cluts, brother-in-law John (Elnora) Weymiller, and several nieces and a nephew.
