Obituary


Harriet Foster, 94, of Webster City, formerly of Eagle Grove, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2011 at Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Samuel Lutheran Church, 201 North Lincoln, in Eagle Grove, with Pastor Rich Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2011 from 10:00-11:00 AM at Samuel Lutheran Church, in Eagle Grove. 

Harriet was born on February 28, 1917 to Albert and Anna (Simerl) Fosnaugh in Mohammed, Illinois.  She is one of eight children.  The family later moved to a farm near Thor, where she attended country school in Eagle Grove through the 8th grade.

In her teenage years, she cleaned houses to earn extra income.

At age 16, Harriet married Kenny Foster in 1933 at the Humboldt courthouse.  The couple moved to Algona where they opened their own sanitation business.

In 1959, they moved to Eagle Grove to raise their family of ten children and carry on the business until 1975, when Kenny retired due to health issues.

In her retirement years, Harriet enjoyed spending time with her family.  She loved to sew and make quilts and collect Tupperware and Avon.

Harriet was a lifelong member of Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove.

Harriet was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed by those who love her.

Harriet is survived by her children: Thelma Johnson of Eagle Grove, Harriet (Gary) Garner of Middledart, Florida, Kenny D. Foster of Thor, Verna Foster of Eagle Grove, Samuel (Judy) Foster of Woolstock, Steven (Marie) Foster of Eagle Grove, and Susan (Jim) Kamprath of Iowa City; daughter-in-law Mary Ann Foster of Wisconsin; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; and a brother Jim (Ruth) Fosnaugh of Klemme.

Harriet is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenny, daughters Beverly Blue and Rita Ferguson, and son Ronald Foster.
