Harry Duane Peters, 87, of Kanawha, Iowa passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at the Christian Reformed Church, 129 East 3rd Street, Kanawha with Pastor Steve Schulz officiating.  Interment will follow at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.

A visitation to celebrate his life will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East 2nd Street, Kanawha.

Harry was the only child of John and Tena (Abbas) Peters, born on his parents’ farm near Kanawha on Sept. 5, 1928, where he lived until he retired from farming.  Harry married the love of his life, JoAnn Hummel, in Klemme, Iowa on December 5, 1951.  They farmed near Kanawha and had three sons, Roger, Russell and Richard.  After retiring from farming, they moved into Kanawha and operated a business in Fort Dodge, Iowa until Harry suffered a stroke about four years ago.

Harry was a lifetime member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church where he was one of the volunteers that helped build the current building and he later served as deacon.  He enjoyed music and singing in the church choir.  He enjoyed farming, his hobbies and especially going fishing “up North”.  He had many catches and “fish stories” but Mom caught the biggest trophy.

Harry is survived by his wife, JoAnn; his sons and their families, Roger (Marilyn) of Woodbury, Minnesota, their children, Meleah (Troy) Miller and their sons, Noah, Zachary and Micah of West St. Paul, Minnesota and Daniel of San Francisco, California; Russell (Julie) of Kanawha, daughter, Jasmine (Scott) Lester of St. Charles,  and their children, Wade, Erika, and Phoebe; Richard (Brenda) and sons, Jonathan and Nathan of Tampa, Florida.
