Heinz Werner, son of Heinrich and Appolonia (Silz) Schmid, was born on August 18, 1945, in Mainz, Germany. He spent his early years growing up in Germany until the age of 16, when he immigrated to the United States.
After graduating from high school, Heinz joined the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge, he entered the workforce as a truck driver for egg companies. Through dedication and hard work, he advanced in his career and eventually became a complex manager for an egg company, where he worked for 35 years before retiring.
Heinz was united in marriage to Lauralee on July 26, 1981, in Morris, Illinois. Together, they raised their family in Illinois before relocating to Belmond in 1996. Heinz and Lauralee loved to travel as a family, showing their children the world.
Heinz enjoyed spending his free time golfing and fishing. He was active in the Belmond community by volunteering his time by driving the Care Car and mowing the Belmond Cemetery. He was also a member of the Presbyterian Church in Clarion. Above all, Heinz cherished his role as “Opa.”
Heinz is survived by his children Christy (John) Faulk, Stefanie (Adam) Brunner, and Barrett (Marina) Schmid; and grandchildren Kassidy and Quinn Brunner, and Alicia, Wren, and Nicholas Schmid.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lauralee in 2012; his parents; and siblings.
