Obituary


Helen F. Stroud, 89, of Clarion passed away Monday, March 7, 2011 at Careage of Clarion in Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, March 11, 2011 at Ewing Funeral Home, 602 North Main Street in Clarion, with Reverend Nils Hernandez officiating. Burial will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Clarion.  Visitation will be held on Friday, March 11, 2011 from 12:30 – 1:30 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 602 North Main Street, in Clarion.  Helen Francis Stroud was born on December 11, 1921 in Humboldt, Iowa to Albert and Helen (Johnson) Stupka.  Helen graduated from Renwick High School and married William Stroud in 1939.  The couple made their home at the Owl Lake Farm near Hardy and later moved to Clarion, where Helen worked as a bookkeeper for the Co-op elevator. Helen loved hearing and laughing at stories, going for rides for ice cream, cooking her famous chicken and rice and baking cookies for her grand kids. Helen was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion. Helen is survived by her son Lee (Stephanie) Stroud of Dakota City; four grandchildren: Page (Brian) Smith of Kanawha; Kelly Stroud of Denver, Colorado; Randy (Mindy) Stroud of Bellevue, Iowa; and Amy Stroud of Clinton, Iowa; and nine great-grandchildren. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, her husband William in 1979, her sisters, Alice Fulks and Edna Vought, and her brothers, Lawrence, Edward, and George Stupka.
