Helen Goemaat, the daughter of Henry and Cornelia (Staam) Crum, was born on the
family farm outside of Otley, Iowa on May 10, 1927. Helen attended country
school near Pella, Iowa before her family moved to Hollandale, Minnesota where
she completed the 8th grade.
She was united in marriage to William Goemaat on March 11, 1952 in Hollandale,
Minnesota. The couple farmed in Leland, Kanawha and Belmond. After years of
renting, they were able to fulfill their lifelong dream of purchasing their own
farm. The couple loved to travel especially to National Parks and camping in the
mountains.
Helen was a true caregiver, working over 30 years at the Rehabilitation Center
of Belmond and being a dedicated homemaker. She enjoyed knitting beautiful
outfits for her grandchildren and baking them cookies. She was a self-taught
cook who humbly showed off her talent at her Christmas gatherings that included
family, neighbors and friends. She cherished fellowship, laughter and peaceful
walks on the bike trail.
Helen truly loved the Lord and was a faithful member of the Wright Christian
Reformed Church. She will be remembered for her Christian values and would be
adamant that her family and friends take care of each other.
Helen is survived by her son John (Jean) Goemaat of Belmond and their children
Will (Gabby) and children Ciera, Bryce and Aiden Goemaat and Kristina (Joel)
Gindo; daughter Denise (Mike) Vasey of Lincoln, Nebraska and their children Amy,
Alex and Brian; son Marv (Mary) Goemaat of Belmond and their children Justin
(Brittany) Goemaat and children Wyatt, Marshall and Taylor and Dan (Sara)
Goemaat and their daughter Lindy; brother John Crum along with many nieces and
nephews.

sisters, Johanna Lewis, Cornelia Ravenhorst and Hermnia Drenth.
