Obituary


Henry Assink, 83, of Kanawha passed away Thursday, June 13, 2000 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa.

Henry, a son of Ed and Hilda Assink, was born November 11, 1916, on a farm northwest of Kanawha, Iowa.  He was united in marriage to Ada Eekhoff on August 25, 1949.  They farmed southwest of Kanawha until 1982 when they moved to Kanawha.  Henry entered the Kanawha Care Center in 1998.

As a young man Henry made a profession of faith in the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church.  He graduated from Kanawha High School in 1934.  He worked in the California shipyards and in 1942 was drafted into the Navy.  He served in WWII for 14 months.  He served the Kanawha Christian School Board and also served on the council of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church.

Henry is survived by his wife Ada, four daughters: Lois and husband, Ivan VanDusseldorp of Platte, South Dakota, Kathy and husband, Marv Doezema of Belding, Michigan, Susan and husband, John Hellenga of Kanawha, Iowa, and Jan and husband Doug Ziegler of Adel, Iowa; grandchildren: Rachel, Mark, and Ruth Van Dusseldorp, Sarah, Jason, and Joel Doezema, Aaron, Nathan, Anna, and Noah Hellenga, and Joshua and Justin Zeigler; brothers: Harold and wife, Nettie of Kanawha, Iowa and Paul and wife, Dorothy of Palos Heights, Illinois and sister Ruth Veldhouse of Denver, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Hilda Assink and brother-in-law Heiko Veldhouse Jr.
