Henry DeWaard, 95 of Kanawha, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at the
Kanawha Community Home.
The funeral service for Henry will be held 10:30 AM Friday, October 15, 2021 at
Kanawha Christian Reformed Church, 129 E 3rd St, Kanawha with Pastor Jason
Siemens officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 PM at Woden Christian Reformed
Church Cemetery, rural Woden. The visitation will from 9:30 until time of the
funeral on Friday.
Henry John DeWaard son of John and Lynda (Vreeman) DeWaard was born on February
21, 1926 on a farm near Renwick in Wright County.
Henry attended Woden High School and helped his dad on the family farm.
Henry and Josie were united in marriage on March 19, 1948, at the Saint James
Church in Mason City at two o'clock in the afternoon. To this union three
children were born, John, Janice, and James.
Henry taught Sunday school at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church and was the
custodian with Josie for many years. He drove school bus for the school, taking
turns driving with his brother.
Henry spent his spare time caring for his church and the school. Henry always
wanted the best looking yard in Kanawha, when Henry wasn't able to mow and trim
his yard himself he requested that whoever mowed his lawn would mow on Saturday,
so it looked nice for Sunday.
Henry is survived by his children John (Phyllis) DeWaard, and Janice Cartwright;
four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law Fred Danger Jr.
Henry is preceded in death by his parents; wife Josie DeWaard; son James;
daughter-in-law Jerry; son-in-law Stephen Cartwright; granddaughter Jayna
Fontenot; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
