Obituary


Inez Irene Johnson, 89, of Kanawha, passed away Friday, May 4, 2012, at the Kanawha Community Home.

Funeral services for Inez Johnson will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at 1:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Kanawha with Pastor Tim Rieckhoff-Faris officiating.  Burial will be at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 7, 2012, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East Second Street, in Kanawha and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Inez was born on October 5, 1922, to Bruce and Vena (Holck) Lacock on a farm southeast of Garner. She graduated from Britt High School.  On October 8, 1940, she married Jay Johnson in the Kanawha Methodist Church Parsonage. They made their home on a farm south of Kanawha.  In 1989 she moved into town and lived at Sunset Manor. For 43 years she worked as a cook in all the cafes in Kanawha and loved to cook and bake.

Inez is survived by her daughters, Jo Ann Baker of Champlin, Minnesota, Bonnie (Ken) Glaspey of Ames, Iowa, Carol (Dean) Van Pelt of Ogden, Iowa and Jackie (David W.) Johnson of Kanawha; grandchildren, Debra (Todd) Anderson of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Tony (Nancy) Baker of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Sandra (Kurt) Marquardt of Rochester, Minnesota, Jeffrey Glaspey of Ames, Iowa, Lisa (Scott) Wright of Dexter, Iowa, Doug (Stephanie) Van Pelt of Winterset, Iowa, Andy (Angela) Van Pelt of Ankeny, Iowa,  Josh Johnson of Belmond, Iowa and Jake (Paige) Johnson of Corwith, Iowa; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 1 niece and 1 nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Vena; husband, Jay; sons, Warren and Allen; son-in-law, Richard Baker; grandson, Dean Baker and sisters, Thelma Drake and Charlotte Shoop.
