Irene A. (Larson) Benson
Irene A. Benson, 93, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, formerly of Kanawha, passed away Monday, March 5, 2001, at the Auburn Hills Nursing Home.
Funeral services for Irene Benson will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 9, 2001, at the Kanawha Lutheran Church in Kanahwa, Iowa with Rev. Dr. William H. Breen, Interim Pastor officiating. Burial will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Ewing Funeral Home in Kanawha and one hour prior to services at the church.
Irene, the daughter of Bert and Alma (Erickson) Larson, was born January 25, 1908, in Kanawha, Iowa. She attended rural school near Kanahwa and Eagle Grove High School. Irene taught country school before she was married.
On February 22, 1930, she was united in marriage with Harvey Benson. The couple made their home and farmed 1 1/2 mile east of Kanawha. Following Harvey’s retirement in 1972, the couple divided their time between Kanawha and Mountain Home, Arkansas.
Irene was a member of the Kanawha Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Church Women and Birthday Clubs. She enjoyed doing needlework: crocheting, embroidering, and knitting.
Irene is survived by one daughter, Patricia Melson of Mountain Home, Arkansas; two grandchildren: Beverly and her husband Jonny Doyle of Pineville, North Carolina, and A. G. Melson, Jr. and his wife Susan of Roanoke, Virginia; one sister, Muriel Cooper and her husband William, of Clear Lake, Iowa, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Harvey, in 1994.
