Obituary


Irene Mae Thompson, 93, passes away Thursday, May 22, 1997, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion, Iowa.

Irene, the daughter of Norwegian parents, Amos Lerum and Carrie Larson, was born September 28, 1903, in Buxton, ND.  She received her education there and taught in many country schools in North Dakota.

She met her future husband, Irving D. Thompson when he and other Clarion, Iowa men worked at harvest time in North Dakota.  They were married October 18, 1920, in Halstad, MN, and came to Iowa and farmed near Belmond, Dows, Olaf and starting in 1936, near Kanawha.

In North Dakota, Irene was a member of the Rebekahs and the Children of the Pioneers.  She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School in the Kanawha Methodist Church for many years.  She had been a member of the Women's Country Club and a 56 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Carol Campbell of Portola Valley, CA, and two grandchildren, Laurel Campbell of Seattle, WA, and Tim Campbell of Bolder, CO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband - Irving, two brothers and two sisters.
