Obituary


Iva M. Schalow, 87, of Britt, entered into eternal rest on May 19, 2001 at the Westview Care Center in Britt.

Iva May Schalow was born July 10, 1913 at Elgin, Utah, the daughter of Lyman and Blache (Long) Kent.  At the age of 2, the family moved to Guthrie County, Iowa.  She attended Guthrie County rural schools.

Iva was united in marriage with Albert (Abe) Schalow on October 3, 1932 at the Christian Church Parsonage in Guthrie Center.  To this union one child Marlene, was born.  The couple farmed in Grant Township until moving to Adair in 1952.

Iva was employed by the Adair-Casey schools as a hot lunch cook for 22 years.  She later was a nanny for Rhett Shockey for several years.  Iva moved to Britt in 1982 to be near her family.

Iva  is survived by her daughter, Marlene and her husband Gary Gray of Britt; grandchildren, Kathie Price and husband, John of Britt, Michael Gray and wife, Ranae of Garner, Mitzi Chizek and husband, Wayne of Grimes; great-grandchildren: Jason Chizek and his wife, Jessie, and their son Kamrin, Amanda Chizek, Kelley and Jessica Gray; step-great granddaughter, Mindy (Price) Weeks and her husband Gary and their children, Mikayla and Owen; one sister-in-law Irene Kent; several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Abe in December of 1976, brother Charles Kent in 1978, and an infant sister Edith.
