Jake C. Appelhons, 73, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 1991 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa. Jake, the son of John and Catherine (Kress) Appelhons, was born June 2, 1918 in Britt.  He attended the country schools in the Britt area. On December 2, 1939 he was united in marriage with Tena Smit at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt.  The couple made their home on a farm in the Britt and Crystal Lake area.  He was employed with Winnebago Industries, Inc. in Forest City from 1970 to 1984. Jake was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt.  He enjoyed his family, fishing, gardening and camping.  Jake was always willing to lend a helping hand. Survivors include his wife, Tena Appelhons of Crystal Lake, Iowa; one son, Robert Appelhons and his wife, Jackie of Forest City, Iowa; two daughters: Judy Janssen and her husband, Gary of Clear Lake, Iowa; Jeanne Tollagson and her husband, Wayne of Woden, Iowa; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters: Elizabeth Haxton, Mary Fox and her husband, Louie, Irene Fancis and her husband, Darrell all of Britt; two brothers: Joe Appelhons and his wife, Donna of Britt, Iowa; John Appelhons and his wife, Emma of Thompson, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Catherine and Barbara; one grandson, Rory.
