Following high school, Jim attended the University of Illinois for a time before
moving to California to pursue a career in acting. Jim appeared in many
episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation over the first few seasons it aired.
In 1989, while on vacation at Leech Lake in Minnesota, Jim met Tamara Harle.
The couple later married at the Evangelical Free Church in Britt on June 29,
1991. To this union, children Collin, Mallory and Gavin were born. Jim and
Tammy made their home in the Twin Cities where Jim completed his Bachelors
Degree at the University of Minnesota while Tammy finished her MBA program.
Following college graduation, Jim and Tammy continued to live in the Twin Cities
