Obituary


James Carl Hartwig, 67, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 1994, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa.

Jim, the son of Oscar and Lula (Holck) Hartwig, was born December 8, 1926, in Kanawha, Iowa.  He attended school at the Corwith High School in graduating in 1944.

Jim was united in marriage with Gertrude Ruter on October 21, 1947 at the Methodist Church in Kanawha, Iowa.  After their marriage the couple made their home on a farm near Kanawha.  They then moved into Kanawha where Jim worked on a milk route and also at the elevator.  They then bought The Shed and owned and operated this for 23 years.  During that 23 years Jim catered noon lunches to the employees of Kiefer built.  Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping.  He was a member of the Kanawha United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude; two daughters: Jodi Spieker and her husband, Dennis of Hayfield, Iowa; Julie and her fiance, Rick Jordan of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; one son: Chris Hartwig, at home; his father: Oscar Hartwig of Kanawha, Iowa; one brother, Chuck Hartwig and his wife, Pat of Kanawha, Iowa; two sisters: Dorothy Greiman and her husband,  Walt of Milan, Missouri; Evelyn Abele and her husband, Harold of Klemme, Iowa; six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lula and one sister, Gladys Larson.
