Obituary


James Francis Pavelka, 74, of Britt passed away Monday, May 15, 1995 at North Iowa Mercy Health Center - East Campus in Mason City, Iowa.

James was born September 28, 1920 in Britt, the son of Joseph and Alice (Zabransky) Pavelka.  James attended the Britt Community Schools and then began farming.  He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.  In 1946 he returned home and continued farming.  On November 12, 1947, he was united in marriage with Evelyn Young at St. Boniface in Garner.  The couple lived in Garner for four years.  In 1952 they purchased the farm that James grew up on near Britt.  James retired from farming in 1982.  James devoted his time to the art of wood crafting.  He also enjoyed fishing and gardening.

James was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church where he served as a past trustee and also as an usher, and was a member of the Catholic Workman.  He was also a member of the Britt American Legion where he was a past commander.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his seven children: Kathryn Kerns and her husband, Michael of Burnsville, Minnesota; Robert and his wife, Connie of Britt, Iowa; Jerry of Britt, Iowa; Marilyn Larson and her husband, Joe of Springfield, Missouri; Alvin of Boulder, Colorado; Allen and his wife, Lisa of Las Vegas, Nevada; Gene and his wife, Patsy of Britt, Iowa; two sisters: Margaret Hrubes of Garner, Iowa; Leona Hrubes and her husband, Joe of Britt, Iowa; two brothers: Paul and his wife, Bea of Waterloo, Iowa; Joseph and his wife, Sheryl of Hastings, Minnesota; and fourteen grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his parents.
