Obituary
Janet L. Meints, 95, of Belmond, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023 at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 304 3rd Avenue Northeast in Belmond, with Pastor Katie Pals officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 - 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at the church.
This Norwegian, Janet La Vonne was born March 6, 1928 to Lloyd and Ruby (Knutson) Lerdal in Goldfield, Iowa. She was the oldest of Jan, Ken, Bev, Bud, Bob, and Tom (and Mother didn’t like nicknames!)
She moved to Belmond in 1942 and graduated from Belmond High School in 1946. She spent all her working years on Belmond’s Main Street, including 20 years working side by side with her husband at Meints Laundry.
Jan married Glenn “Moo” Meints on October 22, 1952. They adopted Max and Jenny Peterson and their daughters Kate, Kelsey, and Kinslie and had “3 dozen + 3” wonderful nieces and nephews.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Beta Sigma Phi for 65 years, Belmond Area Art Council, and Hospice of North Iowa.
Jan is survived by her adopted son Max and Jenny Peterson and their daughters Kate, Kelsey and Kinslie; brothers Bud (Carol) Lerdal and Bob (Shirley) Lerdal; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Moo Meints; infant brothers Richard and Roger; brothers Kenneth (Shirley) Lerdal and Tom Lerdal; sister Bev (Jim) Lande; sister-in-law Diane Lerdal; and parents-in-law Bill and Tillie Meints.
