Janice Marie Scanlan was born December 16, 1941 to Michael Vincent and Zetta
Helen (Flynn) Scanlan in San Pedro, California. Following high school, she
attended college for one year, studying nursing.
In her teenage years, she was introduced to a young man who had moved from Iowa
with his family. Jan was united in marriage to Larry Conlon on May 2, 1960 at
Saint Columban Catholic Church in Garden Grove, California. The couple settled
in Spencer, Iowa, where they lived for several years before moving to Clarion in
1968.
Jan and Larry made Clarion their forever home, raising their seven children and
owning and operating Conlon's Bakery until 1991. Her primary occupation was a
mother and caretaker to her family and her children's friends. Their home was
often the center of activity in the neighborhood.
Jan and Larry enjoyed traveling, and took several memorable trips together,
including a month-long RV excursion out west with the younger kids in the early
80s, a 5 week retirement vacation to Ireland in 2011 and several trips to Canada
and around the states.
Jan was always in attendance at sporting events, concerts and other activities
of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed
painting, quilting and in more recent years, genealogy and watching HGTV.
Jan was a longtime, faithful member of St. John's Catholic Church in Clarion.
Jan will be lovingly remembered for her boundless generosity, her kind eyes and
infectious smile and laughter and for always putting the needs of others before
her own.
