Obituary

Jean Terhark, 74, of Corwith, was released from all her earthly burdens and entered into eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 13, 2009. Jean had most recently been residing at the Villa Cottages in Fort Dodge.

The funeral service to celebrate Jean’s home going will be held on Saturday, April 18th, 1:30 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church - 517 SE Elm Street - Corwith, Iowa with Pastor David Olson officiating. Burial will follow at the Corwith Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, April 17th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ewing Funeral Home - 178 Center Street West - Britt, Iowa and continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Jean Ann (Nelson) Terhark was born on November 6, 1934 to Joseph and Corrine (Narvick) Nelson in Belmond, Iowa.

Jean lived a life of quiet industry growing up on her family’s farm in the Britt area. After graduating from Britt High School she married Harm Duane Terhark on June 7, 1952. She traveled with Harm and her young family while he served his country in the army. Later she became an integral partner in the farming operation that she and Harm built in the Corwith area.

Jean served her Lord as an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Corwith. She taught various Sunday school classes, led women’s Bible studies, and served in many other capacities over the years.

Jean had a boundless energy that she poured into all that she did. She led by example instead of words and everything she did was a job well done whether the task was canning that year’s garden bounty, dressing chickens or baking cakes. She was one of the most creatively gifted cooks as attested to by her family as well as her dinner guests over the years. Many of her recipes cannot be duplicated due to Jean’s own brand of love being the secret ingredient.

Jean is survived by her four children, Marquita (Kenneth) Hays of Fort Dodge, Bruce (Jackie) Terhark of Corwith, Paula (Michael) Robinson of West Des Moines, and Brian (Christine) Terhark of Waukee; two siblings, Janet (Edward) Meyer of Fort Dodge and Duaine (Beverly) Nelson of Britt; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Jean loved each member of her family for who they were and appreciated the special gifts of each.

Her husband Harm and her parents preceded Jean in death.
