Jean Marie, daughter of Howard and Helen (Walker) Cowell, was born on January
17, 1941, in Independence. Jean grew up in Aurora until moving to Hazelton in
her junior year. She attended high school in Hazelton, where she was Senior
Homecoming Queen and where she met the love of her life, James Snively. After
high school, Jean went to beauty school and then worked at a hair salon in
Oelwein.
On August 19, 1962, Jean was united in marriage to Jim in Hazelton. They moved
to Chicago while Jim was attending Optometry School. In 1964, Jim and Jean moved
to Clarion where they've made their home ever since. Jean worked at the hotel
beauty salon.
Jean was a great cook and wonderful piano player. She loved to bake delicious
sweets and tend to her garden. After retirement, Jean learned how to groom her
poodle's hair and even gave her family their routine haircuts.
Her family was most important to her. She loved spending time with them, whether
they were in Minnesota on family fishing trips, annual trips to the apple
orchards, or just at their home visiting.
Jean is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dr. James Snively of Clarion; two
daughters Lynn Nicolette of Thornton, Colorado, and Jill (Martin) Arispe of
Alta, Iowa; grandchildren Martin Jr., Shaun, and Chloey (Austin);
great-grandchildren Trey, Annabella, Sadie, Stryker, Gracie, Layauna, Raelynn,
Brooklyn, and Gabriella; sister Barbara (Don) Stubbs of Garner; brothers Tom
(Barb) Cowell of Fairbank and Dale (Judy) Cowell of Wauzeka, Wisconsin; and many
other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her son Michael Snively in
2022, her nephew Bryon (Bucky) Cowell in 2023, and her parents.
