Obituary


Jean Menke, 98, of Clarion passed away Saturday, January 4, 2020 at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion. The family requests no flowers as there will be a graveside service at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery on June 6, 2020 at 10:30 AM. Family and friends are welcome to attend. Donations may be made to St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion, Iowa.

Jean Marie Menke was born in Pocahontas Iowa on October 22, 1921. She was the oldest child of Alfred (AJ) and Eileen Miller. On May 22, 1943, she married Roy Menke at the Army base chapel while stationed in Cheyenne, WY. They moved to Clarion in 1950 and were members of St John’s Catholic Church. Jean worked for the Wright County Abstract office from 1962 through 1973.

Jean and Roy spent many a long winter (like from September through May) starting in the early 1990’s in the south valley of Texas. They loved it down there and became very involved in the communities in and around Pharr and McAllen, Texas.

Jean is survived by her son Mark Menke and wife Karen Menke of Eagan, MN and son-in law Jim Prather who lives near Kansas City, MO. She is also survived by a younger sister, Rosemary Royse of Lincoln, NE and numerous nieces, nephews, grand and great grand nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Marilyn (Prather) Menke, younger brother Bill Miller, and husband Roy Menke.

Jean will be missed by so many family and friends, but had a great long life.
