Jerry D. Smidt

Jerry D. Smidt, 70, of Britt, Iowa passed away Monday, October 25, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, in Mason City, Iowa.

A graveside service for Jerry Smidt will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt with Pastor Lee Nelson officiating. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2010 from 5-7 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 178 Center Street West.

Jerry was born and raised in Britt, “His Town,” as he called it.  He loved Britt.

Jerry married his beloved wife Ann L. (Mariner) Smidt on October 1, 1965.  Together 45 years, they were blessed with four children: Anthony, Lori-Ann, Alanna, and Adam Justin Smidt, who died at birth.  John Madson was also like another son who meant the world to him.  He also had six grandchildren and he always made these children feel loved.  The time he spent with them was “A Bit of Heaven” as he would say.

When you met Jerry, you would walk away with a different attitude toward life in general.  He was such a warm, gentle, strong, and tender spirit.  His passion was farming, although he had many other jobs including working at the Britt Milk Plant, Morton Buildings, Winnebago Industries, and Smidley, Inc.

Jerry is survived by his wife Ann Smidt; three children, Tony (Monica) Smidt of Britt, Lori (Troy) Aukes of Garner, and Alanna (Travis) Randall of Burt; six grandchildren, Ashley Aukes, Paiten Kraft, Veronica Kraft, Dylan Smidt, Bianca Randall, and Trevor Randall.

Jerry is preceded in death by his mother, Anna Marie Park, his father, Ben Smidt, his son Adam Justin Smidt, sister Julie Bouwer, and brother Ben Smidt, Jr.
