Obituary


Jerry Weiskamp, 72, of Britt, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Edgewater Rehabilitation Center in West Des Moines.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Jerry Weiskamp will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, February 28, 2022 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 335 First Avenue South East in Britt, with Father Joseph Sevcik officiating.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 PM on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt, with a Scriptural Wake Service beginning at 4:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to Mass at the church on Monday.

Jerald Francis Weiskamp was born January 13, 1950 to Arthur and Marcella “Sally” (Ptacek) Weiskamp in Britt, Iowa.  He was raised and educated in Britt, and graduated from Britt High School with the Class of 1968.

Following high school, Jerry attended college in Kansas City for a time before serving with the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Jerry was united in marriage to Mary Lou Kramer on November 6, 1976.  The couple made their home in Britt, where they raised their children Andy, Randy, and Dawn.

Jerry worked for West Hancock public schools as a custodian for many years.  He also worked at Iowa Mold Tooling in Garner for a few years and for the D.O.T. for a time.

Jerry loved working on and restoring old cars, doing mechanical work and body work with his friends in his mother’s garage, a passion he passed along to his son, Andy.

Jerry enjoyed playing 500 and poker, and in recent years, he and Mary Lou had enjoyed traveling together. Most of all, Jerry loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Jerry was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt.  He was also a member of the Britt American Legion Post.

Jerry will be lovingly remembered for his constant smile, his positive attitude and for his great love of his family.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, of Britt; children Andy (Courtney) Weiskamp of Garner, IA; Randy (Ashley) Weiskamp of Urbandale, IA; Dawn (Derek) Grooters of Ames, IA and grandchildren Kyler Grooters, Morgan Weiskamp, Hannah Weiskamp, Kella Grooters, Reese Weiskamp, Sophia Weiskamp, Madison Weiskamp, Kasey Weiskamp and Riley Weiskamp; his mother, Sally Weiskamp of Britt; along with numerous extended family members and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Weiskamp in 1973 and his grandson, Kael Grooters in 2011.
