Joan Phyllis, daughter of Robert and Mattie (Dunning) Daggett, was born on
October 17, 1935 in Estherville. Joan attended school in Clarion and graduated
from Clarion High School in 1953. After high school, Joan worked at the local
telephone office.
On November 11, 1958, Joan was united in marriage to Gerald Murphy at St. John's
Catholic Church in Clarion. The couple made their home on a farm in rural
Clarion where they raised their five children. Joan enjoyed being a farmer's
wife and was always helping Jerry on the farm with the livestock, running for
machine parts, or taking meals out to the field. After their kids were older,
Joan worked at Conlon's Bakery. She also did daycare and later worked at Life
Touch.
Joan enjoyed various craft projects, crocheting, reading, and watching the
Hallmark Channel. Family and her beloved cat, Pepper, were most important to
Joan. Spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a joy.
Joan is survived by her children Diana (Steve) Hennigar of Clarion, Michele
(Brian) Leininger of Lenexa, Kansas, Linda (Cliff) Coon of Humboldt, and Bob
(Elizabeth) Murphy of Clarion; grandchildren Mark (Steph) Hennigar, Kristyn
Hennigar, Alex Leininger, Andy Leininger, Graciela Leininger, Karlez Coon,
Bailey (Israel) Lopez-Vicario, Devon Coon, Jorden Coon, Lance Coon, Lauren
Murphy, Michael Murphy, and Ryan Murphy; great-grandchildren Reese, Callen,
Victoria, Nico, and Mateo; and many other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Jerry Murphy; son Mike Murphy;
and daughter-in-law Donna Murphy.
