Joan V. (Brooks) Schroeder, 93, of Clarion, passed away on Saturday, November
12, 2022 at Clarion Wellness and Rehab.
Visitation for Joan Schroeder will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022 from
5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion.
Joan Virginia, daughter of Edgar and Hazel (Whipple) Brooks, was born on April
21, 1929 on the family farm near Lake Cornelia. Joan grew up on the farm and
attended Plum Grove Country School. At 17 years old, she graduated as
salutatorian from Clarion High School in 1946.
On August 10, 1946, Joan was united in marriage to Dean Schroeder. They made
their home in Des Moines for a short while before returning to Clarion where
they raised their four children.
Joan and Dean spent many winters in Texas and loved to golf, play cards and host
friends. Dean planted a huge garden, Joan got stuck taking care of it but
enjoyed canning and making salsa. Joan was an excellent seamstress. She made
clothes for her family when the kids were growing up along with a wedding dress
for her daughter-in-law.
Joan is survived by her children David (Terri) Schroeder of Ventura, Jami
(Roger) Carr of Holland, Dann (Mary) Schroeder of Belmond, and Jona McGrath of
Clarion; grandchildren Mike Schroeder, Andi DeLozier, Courtney Weber, Caleb
Carr, Curtis Carr, Jacob Schroeder, Emma Schroeder, Aubrey Davis, Zach Dahlgren,
Cubby Dahlgren, and Mikayla Walker; 18 great-grandchildren; 1
great-great-grandchild; brothers Roger (Sunny) Brooks and Alan Brooks;
brother-in-law Donald Schroeder; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Dean in 2019; parents; Dean's parents
Norman and Ruby Schroeder; 8 siblings Maxine, Charlene, Betty, Robert, Jack,
James, Pat, and William; son-in-law Daryl McGrath.
