John Bennett Buren, the son of Burrell and Alice (Smith) Buren, was born on December 5, 1936, in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He grew up in Britt and graduated from Britt High School with the Class of 1954. Following high school, John enlisted in the United States Army on September 15, 1959. He served overseas before entering the Army Reserves on August 29, 1961, and was honorably discharged on August 31, 1965.

Upon returning home, John began his career working on the railroad for Minneapolis and St. Louis Railway, then to the Chicago North Western and retired with the Union Pacific. He truly enjoyed life on the rails and had the opportunity to see much of the United States during his 42 years on the road. Although John eventually retired, his love of trains never faded. He proudly maintained an extensive collection of Lionel model trains, a hobby that reflected a lifelong passion.

He is survived by his son Jonathon (Denise) Buren; grandchildren Brook (Tucker) Kroeze, Bret (Mallory) Walk, and Bryce Buren along with extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, great grandson Sutton Kroeze, siblings Burrell Buren, Mary Devine and Bob Buren.
