John DeWaard, 83, of Kanawha, passed into his eternal home on Thursday, February
10, 2022, at the Kanawha Community Home. Funeral services for John DeWaard will
be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Wright Christian Reformed
Church, 1730 East 130rd Street in rural Kanawha, with Pastor Jason Semans
officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, February
18, 2022, at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East 2nd Street in Kanawha, and will
continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. On November 4,
1938, he was born to Peter and Sadie DeWaard in Kanawha, Iowa. He attended a one
room schoolhouse for grade school and then graduated from Kanawha High School in
1957. John married Beverly Ruter on August 25, 1967, at the Wright Christian
Reformed Church. He and Bev lived, worked, and raised cattle and their three
children on a farm west of Kanawha. John enjoyed farming and he was continually
amazed at God's creation. He also loved putting his children to work and used
that time together to model what it looked like to live out one's faith and live
in awe of our God. Later in life, he enjoyed his grandchildren and was an active
member of the Gideons. He loved God, his family, and the church where he was
baptized, made profession of faith, and is now being buried. He is survived by
his children, Pat (Hugh) Maetzold, Jacey (Rory) Wallace, Tim (Kristi) DeWaard,
and his grandchildren, John Wallace, Jacob Wallace, Luke DeWaard, Samuel
Wallace, Calvin Wallace, Olivia DeWaard, Bethany Maetzold, Benjamin Wallace, and
Lily Maetzold, and sisters Adriana Beving and Ruth Diephius. He was preceded in
death by his wife, Bev; his parents; his brothers, Gary and Herm; and his
nephew, John Beving. In lieu of flowers, memorials in John's name may be made to
the Wright Christian Reformed Church or the local chapter of Gideons
International. We appreciate your kindness and expressions of sympathy. The
family of John DeWaard For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we
shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I
am fully known. I Corinthians 13:12
