Obituary


John Ellis Dudgeon, 102, passed away Monday, February 14, 1994, at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City, Iowa.

John, the son of William and Bettie (Woods) Dudgeon, was born July 10, 1891, in Campbellsville, Kentucky where he received his education.  At the age on 19 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was sent to the Philippine Islands for three years, later returning to Kentucky.  He moved to Iowa where he met and was united in marriage with Hilma Johnson in St. Paul, Minnesota on September 22, 1917.  The couple established their home on a farm where they resided for 35 years.  They retired and moved into Britt.

John was a member of the United Methodist Church in Britt for 70 years.  He was active in his community: school director (8 years), school treasurer (8 years), director of the Britt Co-op Elevator (3 years), on the Triple A farm program (7 years), on the E Bond Drive during WW II.  HE wa a member of the I.O.O.F Lodge (60 years), the Rebekah Lodge (60 years) and the Masonic Lodge (69 years).

Survivors include his four sons: Shirley and his wife, Dorothy of Clear Lake, Iowa; Floyd and his wife, Patricia of Bethel Island, California; Wayne and his wife, Gloria of Britt, Iowa; Dale and his wife, Marsha of Ipswich, Massachusetts; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lillie Johns of Pontiac, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Hilma on October 10, 1948, three brothers, six sisters, a granddaughter, Lisa.
