Obituary


Pete Range, 78, of Bella Vista, Arkansas and formerly of Clarion, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013 at the hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.

A memorial service for Pete will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 10:30 AM at Holmes Lutheran Church with Pastor Rich Taylor officiating.

John Peter “Pete” Range was born May 17, 1935 in Mora, Minnesota to John “Hank” Henry and Lucille Gertrude (Fessenden) Range.  He was one of 12 children.

Pete was raised in Mora, Minnesota until his family moved to Princeton, Missouri in the 1950s.  He attended high school in Princeton and later moved to rural Kamrar with his family in 1954.

Pete was united in marriage to Barbara Martin on December 11, 1955 in Rowan.  To this union, 6 children were born.

Pete worked as a hired man for 2 area farmers before beginning to work at the Clarion Co-Op, where he worked for 32 years.  He and Barb managed the Iron Horse Motel in Clarion from 1990 until 1998, when the couple moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas.  Pete worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart until his health challenges forced him into retirement.

Pete and Barb were members of First Lutheran Church in Clarion.

Pete enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, restoring antique pedal tractors and a 1946 Whizzer motorbike and woodworking.  He made countless wooden miniature Christmas trees, complete with lights and decorations, that he gave to family and friends as gifts.

Pete is survived by his wife Barbara of Bella Vista, Arkansas; children Patricia Hendrix and family of Bella Vista, Melissa Stille and family of Loma Linda, California, Doug Range and family of Glorietta, New Mexico, Arnold Range and family of Holmes, Mike Range and family of Bella Vista, and Scott Range and family of Bloomfield, New Mexico; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; siblings Marion Hill and family of St. Ignace, Michigan, Janet Stacy and family of Moline, Illinois, Esther Long and family of Webster City, Duane Range and family of Webster City, Jeannette Muessigmann and family of Stanhope, Eugene Range of Kamrar, and Nancy Davis and family of Clarion; along with numerous other family members and friends.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Kathy and Gary in infancy, Jean Davis, and Luverne Range.
