Obituary


John W. Larson, age 83, of Kanawha passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Wright Medical Center in Clarion, Iowa.

Memorial services for John “Red” Larson will be held Friday July 31, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at Ewing Funeral Home in Kanawha. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.

John the son of Harold and Cecil (Wilkinson) Larson was born on a farm near Kanawha, attended country schools and graduated from Kanawha High School in 1943. He spent two years in the Navy.

Upon completion of service, he farmed for a short time. John then worked and managed the Federal North Iowa Grain Company where he was transferred to Georgetown, Illinois returning to Kanawha in 1971. He worked for Winnebago for two years before working at Broshar Implement until retiring in 1989.

John was a member of the Elks Lodge of Danville, Illinois and American Legion Post 315 of Britt, Iowa.

John married Margaret (Struck) in August 1947.

John is survived by his wife Margaret; two sons: Steve (Judy) Larson of Allendale, Illinois and Jerry Larson of Tokyo, Japan; two daughters: Mary Ellen (Boyd) Lumadue of Des Monies and Peggy (Joe) Larson of Goodell; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; his sister Virginia Christensen of Humboldt and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Cecil Larson and one brother Gene Larson.
