John W. Swartz, 76, of Kanawha, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Hancock County Health Systems. Celebration of Life services will be held at a later date. John William Swartz, the son of Miles and Verna (Duffy) Swartz, was born in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.  John's family moved east and John graduated in 1963 from Mastbaum Technical High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was united in marriage to Catherine A. Bartle. To this union, three daughters were born Kim, Karen and Kerri.  The couple raised their family in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. The couple later divorced. John later moved to Kanawha, Iowa in 2012 to be closer to his daughters, grandchildren and great-grand kids.  In his free time, he enjoyed watching baseball, singing, participating in bowling league, was an avid train collector and hunter. He will be remembered for being thoughtful of others, generous, happy and caring. John is survived by his daughter Kim (Brad) Tolsdorf of Riverside, Iowa and children Jacob (Whitney) Young, Danielle Young, Gabriel (Nathan) Young, and Brady Tolsdorf; daughter Karen (Ben) Thomas of Clear Lake and children Ryan Thomas and Rylee Thomas; daughter Kerri (fiancé Kenny Rossing) Poley of Renwick and children Nichole (Alex) Poley, Dezerae (Isaac) Fish, and Chance (Hannah) Poley; great grandchildren Willow, Jett, Lyla, Axel and Minerva; sister Rennelle Mosher along with nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Miles Swartz, Jr. Memorials may be directed to John Swartz's family.
