Due to rain, all services for John VanHove will be held at the Kanawha Fire
Station on Saturday, July 10.
John C. VanHove, 81 of Kanawha, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020 at the
Kanawha Community Home in Kanawha.
Graveside service for John VanHove will be Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 11:00 AM
at the Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Rural Kanawha. Following the graveside
service lunch will be held at the Kanawha Fire Station.
John Carlyle VanHove, the son of John and Willemnina (Giddings) VanHove, was
born January 27, 1939 at Elmore, Minnesota. He graduated from the Buffalo Center
High School in 1957. John met the love of his life, Jacqueline Gerdis at the
local skating rink. The couple was united in marriage in 1957 at the Elmore
Lutheran Church. They then moved to Kanawha in 1959 where they raised their
three children. He was first employed at the Yeakel Garage and then Kanawha
elevator. While working fulltime in Kanawha, John also served on the Kanawha
Fire Department. John then bought his first Semi-truck and began his 30 year
career as an over the road truck driver. After he retired, John helped Daryl
Ruter on his farm. He believed in keeping busy and being honest with yourself.
He enjoyed racing stock cars in Mason City and Algona and was a big fan of the
Minnesota Vikings. He is survived by his wife, Jacki VanHove of Kanawha; son Jim
VanHove of Carroll; daughter Laurie (Mike) Christians of Kanawha; six
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers; along
with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents,
parents-in-law, daughter Pam Brandt, grandson Jon Michael, and sister Sandy.
