John Wilson Brown, 94, passed away Thursday, July 27, 1995, at his home in
Orlando, Florida.
John Wilson Brown was born November 8, 1900. The son of Alexander Brown and
Hattie Hindle. He attended rural schools in Kossuth County, where his ancestors
were among the first settlers. He married Matilda Putzstuck who preceded him in
death. They had one child, Phyllis. On March 12, 1929, he wed Myrtle Peterson
in Britt Congregational Church where her parents had been married 40 years
before. They moved from Algona to Britt in 1936 where they operated a grocery
store and fruit market. May 9, 1942 took them to Wisconsin where they worked in
the Badger Ordinance Works. When John retired they spend most of the year in
Orlando, Florida and summers in Lake Delton, Wisconsin. He was a member of the
Evangelical Free Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, two infant children and one great
grandchild, his parents, two brothers Loren and Carl both of Algona, Iowa; two
sisters, Mrs. Doris (Wayne) Keith of Burt, Iowa and Mrs. Agnes (John) Dressman
of Algona, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle and three children, Mrs. Phyllis (Marvin)
Koebke Hoffman of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin; Mrs. Dorothy (Carl) Steinhorst
Brahmsted of Baraboo, Wisconsin, and John E. (Phyllis) Brown of Orlando,
Florida; 21 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; one great-great
grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one brother: Ralph of Ocoee, Florida;
two sisters: Mrs. Margaret (Leland) Larson of Emmetsburg, Iowa and Mrs. Ruth
(Don) Stiles of Hutchinson, Kansas.
