Johnathan F. (Willaman) Kofron, 48, of Mason City passed away Wednesday, June
21, 2017. Visitation for John Kofron will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 from
5:00 – 7:00 PM at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street Northeast,
Mason City. Johnathan Francis Willaman was born on October 17, 1968 to Linda and
John Willaman in Canton, Ohio. Following his graduation from McKinnely High
School, he started a catering service in Canton called the Silver Spoon. He
attended South Stark College and Kent State University. John completed his
certifications for National K-9 Dog Trainers and became a member of the
International Association of Canine Professionals through Ohio State University.
John attended the Peer to Peer education program and became a certified mentor
through the National Alliance on Mental Illness teaching classes and practicing
as a recovery support group facilitator at Walsch University. After moving to
Iowa in 2013, he opened the Bark Break Hotel with his business partner Dan
Quinn. John met Darin Kofron and was married in 2015, residing in Mason City.
John is survived by his husband, Darin Kofron; step-daughters, Hannah Kofron
(fiancé Eric Spear) and Hailey Kofron; his mother and step-father Linda and Ed
Cook; grandmother Rosalene Cosgrave; aunt Ella Brown; father and mother-in-law
Bernie and Karen Kofron; brothers-in-law Rick (Cindy) Kofron, Bernie Jr. (RoAnn)
Kofron; sisters-in-law Lori Kofron (Deb Taylor), Chris (Chuck) Smoley; and many
nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by his sister Margaret Willaman.
