Jon Alan Hinman, the son of George and Imogene (Halfpap) Hinman, was born April 19, 1957, in Belmond. Jon grew up in Belmond and graduated from Belmond Community High School with the class of 1975. Jon attended UNI in Cedar Falls and graduated with a degree in organ performance.
After graduation, Jon moved to Chicago and worked at the Midwest Stock Exchange. He served as the regular church organist for one of the largest churches in downtown Chicago. He enjoyed the fact that he had played on some of the largest pipe organs throughout the country. Jon was the organist for many weddings, for both high school and college classmates, and at one time secretly inserted the Belmond Bronco fight song into the prelude. On another occasion, Jon accompanied Lawrence Welk's Dick Dale when Dick sang a solo at a wedding.
Jon moved to Minneapolis where he was a stockbroker. He was proud to be an Iowan and loved the city of Des Moines. This love for Des Moines brought him back where he worked at various jobs. Jon enjoyed family gatherings and decorating for the various holidays. He always added a touch of spice to the kitchen and would share several of his favorite recipes in the menu, which always included his ever-popular strawberry cheese cake.
Jon is survived by his parents, George and Imogene Hinman, a sister Jane (Eugene) Johnson of Temple, TX, two brothers Scott (Jenny) Hinman of Elkart, IN, Andrew (Dixie) Hinman of North Liberty, nieces and nephews Jessica (James) Lindsey, Jonathan (Angie) Johnson, Becky Johnson, Katie (Jon) Birdwell, Matt (Sally) Hinman, Megan Hinman, Gabe Hinman, Ari Hinman and six great-nieces and nephews (Jesse, Maximus, and Anna Miette Lindsey; Calina and Lucas Birdwell; and Finnian Hinman, plus numerous relatives and friends.
