Obituary


Jon Douglas Hiscocks, 81, of Britt, Iowa passed away peacefully from life Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Hancock County Health System.

A Funeral Rite without a Mass will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 139 3rd Street South East in Britt with Father Jerry Kopacek officiating.  Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:30-11:00 AM at the church.

Jon, son of Robert H. and Mavis Leone (Rapp) Hiscocks, was born January 29, 1938 in Britt, Iowa. He graduated from Britt High School in 1956 and married the love of his life Beverly Kay Kopacek on April 21, 1960. To this union came 5 children. Barbara Ann, Gary Jon (Deb), Mitchell Ray (Dawn), Joseph Alan (Annette), Donald Robert (Allison).

 Jon was a two time state wrestling runner up and closely followed local wrestling and DI wrestling for all of his life. He attended many NCAA Wrestling Nationals over the decades. Jon loved dirt track racing with his brother Donnie and his sons. He won Mason City Speedway track championship and is a Kossuth County Speedway Hall of Fame member.

He farmed his entire life with his brother Donnie and his son Joe (D&J Ranch), still helping with this year’s harvest. Late in life he was an “unofficial” greeter for Britt’s Casey’s General Store and was very generous with his opinions on many topics.

Grandpa Jon will be fondly remembered as a rough, tough guy who delighted in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his barn kittens and being part of American agriculture.

Jon is survived by daughter Barb Waltzing, sons; Gary (Deb) Hiscocks, Mitch (Dawn) Hiscocks, Joe (Annette) Hiscocks, Donald (Allison) Hiscocks. His siblings: Bonnie Doughan, Donald (Gloria) Hiscocks, Dean (Marie) Hiscocks. Grandkids; Josh (Laura) Studer, Katie (Dan) Mourlam, Jenna (James) Brooks, Raeann Hiscocks, Casey Hiscocks, Morgan Hiscocks, Elise (Marc) Hempstead, Sam Hiscocks, Dakota Hiscocks, Keely (Jeramy) Young, Haley (Sean) Halverson, Andy Hiscocks, Brent Schuller, Tracy Geisler, Kal Schuller and 9 Great-Grandkids.

He is preceded in death by Wife, Beverly Kay Kopacek. Grandkids: Emma and Charlie Hiscocks and daughter- in-law, Molly Hiscocks. Parents Robert and Mavis Hiscocks. Siblings, Robert Hiscocks Jr., William Hiscocks, Monte Hiscocks, Alan Hiscocks, Judy Becker, Nancy Casperson, Jane Nielson. Father and Mother-in-law Ray and Dorothy Kopacek and Sister-in-law Mary Ann Kopacek.
