Obituary


Joseph “Joe” Frank Korsa, 73, of Crystal Lake passed away Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services for Joe Korsa will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Britt with Pastor Jason Boomgarden officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Crystal Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt and continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Joe the son of Edmund and Bessie (Volf) Korsa was born January 6, 1936 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. At a young age Joe moved with his family to the Crystal Lake area. Joe attended country school and graduated from Hayfield High School in 1953.

Following graduation, Joe went to an Auto Mechanic School in Chicago. Joe served his country with the Army for two years beginning in 1956 and was honorably discharged.

Joe was united in marriage with Josine Benson in May of 1959. The couple made their home in the Forest City area. He opened a garage in Crystal Lake, which he ran for a short time, he then worked for Winnebago Industries in Forest City. Joe was employed by Hancock County for 25 years, in road maintenance. After retirement he was employed for the city of Crystal Lake for ten years.

Joe was a member of Upper Flat Evangelical Free Church where he served as an usher and trustee. He was a member of Z.C.B.J. Fraternal Association for over 50 years. Joe served on the Crystal Lake Town Council and was a fireman and served as Chief for a short time. Joe and Josine loved to travel and attended numerous fairs through out the years.

Joe is survived by his wife of 50 years Josine; two sons: Jeff (Laura) Korsa of Crystal Lake, Jim (Angie) Korsa of Lakeville, Minnesota; six beloved grandchildren: Kasey, Caleb, Michaela, Allie, Tyler and Trevor; two brothers: Bob (Myrna) Korsa of Franktown, Colorado; Bernie (Sandie) Korsa of Garner; one sister, Fran (Al) Tvedt of Fair Grove, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
