Joyce K. (Hosselton) Olson

Joyce Olson, 78, passed away in Mesa, AZ on Monday, October 6, 2014.

Joyce K. Olson was born on January 23, 1936 to William and Lorena (Babcock) Hosselton in the family home near Duncombe. She was the sixth of seven children born into the family. The family moved to a farm east of Eagle Grove and Joyce attended school there, graduating from the Eagle Grove High School in 1953. Following graduation, she worked as a receptionist for Dr. Erlander, the local optometrist.

On January 2, 1955, she was married to Maurice (Maury) Chelesvig of Eagle Grove. They had 4 children and farmed southeast of Eagle Grove. The family moved to  Belmond in 1973 where they purchased the Belmond Furniture Store. Maury passed away in June of 1975.

In 1978, Joyce married Clifford Olson and they resided on the Olson farm near Kanawha. During their marriage, Joyce and Cliff enjoyed traveling, including two trips to Norway and one to Hawaii, and visiting family and friends. Joyce enjoyed decorating their beautiful home, baking, cooking, quilting, and was active in the Women of St. Olaf. She collected angels and was rarely seen without an angel pinned on her shoulder. She sang for several years with the Clarion Choralaires, was on the County Extension Council and worked with the 4H Youth. She was a former member of the A# Music Club in Eagle Grove and also worked at Urness Hardware for a period of time. In 2011, they sold the farmstead and moved into Belmond.

In 1997, Cliff and Joyce purchased a condo in FOS in Mesa and enjoyed spending the winters there. Joyce had been active in the Our Savior's Lutheran Church Chancel Choir and the Altar Guild in Mesa. She moved into Silver Creek Memory Care Unit in Mesa in January 2013.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband; sisters Vivian Trausch and Margaret Dahlke; brother Galen Hosselton; and son Michael Chelesvig.

She is survived by her husband Clifford; sons Jeffery Chelesvig and Bradley Chelesvig; daughter Kimberly Chelesvig; brother William Hosselton; two sisters Jeannette (Ralph) Moffitt and Jacqueline (Gary) Rothbard; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
