Obituary


June G. Thompson, 84, of Britt passed away Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Westview Care Center in Britt.

Mass of Christian Burial for June Thompson will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 139 3rd Street South East in Britt with Fr. Jim Dubert officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Pocahontas at 3:00 PM.

Visitation for June Thompson will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday, August 19, 2016 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt, with a Scriptural Wake Service beginning at 5:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

June Gladys Huling was born June 13, 1932 to Fern and Gladys (Nickerson) Huling on a farm south west of Britt. She attended school at Boone Township and Britt High School, graduating with the class of 1949.

Following high school, June was employed as secretary for H.J. McNertney, the Kossuth county attorney in Algona. She later worked at the Britt Pantorium from September of 1978 until January of 1984. June did a lot of sewing and clothing alterations in her retirement.

June was united in marriage to Donald L Roberts on July 17, 1950 in Algona. The couple made their home in Emmetsburg, Churdan, Sioux Rapids and Havelock. To this union, seven children were born. Donald passed away March 17, 1978 and June moved to Britt in August of that year.

June was united in marriage to David E. Soma on August 28, 1988 in Britt. The couple made their home in Britt, and David passed away October 29, 2005. On April 25, 2009, June married Merrill Thompson in Britt. Merrill passed away May 24, 2014.

June was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the Britt American Legion Auxiliary, and volunteered with Hospice of North Iowa and Hospice of the Heartland.

June enjoyed playing board games and card games, especially Rumikub, Yahtzee and 500.

June is survived by her children, Joseph (Lory) Roberts of Indianola, Iowa, Rose (Joe) Reese of Mackinaw, Illinois, Bev Winkels of Austin, Minnesota, Pat Roberts of Britt, Iowa, Carol (Steve) Cook of Dickeyville, Wisconsin, Dwight (Benilda) Roberts of Indianola, Iowa, and Diane (Kurt) Buller of Richfield, Minnesota; grandchildren Michael Roberts, Kyle Roberts, Tanya (Nick) Roth, Tracy (Dustin) Schierer, Joey Reese, Nikki (Evan) Hart, Katie (George) Sanders, Bryan Reese, Jamie Reese, Regina McGrew, Matt Winkels, Amy Mehlhorn, Brenda Mehlhorn, Tim Mehlhorn, Kimberly Roberts, Jeffrey Roberts, Alex Buller and Megan Buller; great-grandchildren Andrew Roth, Mya Schierer, Sadie Schierer and Evelyn Sanders; brothers Gary Huling and Daryl Huling; numerous step-children, other relatives and friends.

June was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Donald Roberts, David Soma and Merrill Thompson, brothers Marvin Huling, Dale Huling and Gene Huling and niece Connie Huling.
