Karen Ann (Hinckley) Tulp was born June 30, 1955 to Harry M. and Jean E.
(Aldrich) Hinckley in Clarion, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Rowan and
graduated from Belmond High School with the Class of 1973.
Following graduation, Karen went on to attend beauty school at Capri in Mason
City, where she studied cosmetology and went on to teach for a year before
beginning to work at La Ann's in Belmond. She eventually opened her own beauty
shop and operated that for many years before joining Harlan at H&K Plumbing.
Karen was united in marriage to Harlan Tulp on April 25, 1981 at the UCC Church
in Rowan, and together they raised their children, Elizabeth, Holden, Kyle and
Heath. The couple made their home for a time in Belmond before moving out to the
Hinckley family farm. In 1988, they moved back to Belmond where they've lived
ever since.
Karen loved riding her motorcycle, cruising around in her pink Cadillac and
snowmobiling in the winter. She and Harlan traveled to camp and attend NASCAR
races in Arizona for a number of years, and enjoyed trips to Disney World,
Hawaii, Aruba and the Dominican Republic. Most recently, following the family
trip to Bristol, she was able to fulfill a lifelong dream and visited Graceland
in Memphis.
More than anything, Karen loved spending time with her family, whether at the
race track, going camping, or at family supper several nights each week. Her
eight grandchildren were especially precious to her, and she took every
opportunity to be with them whenever possible.
Karen will be lovingly remembered for having a heart of gold, for her infectious
laugh and smile, and her love of visiting and talking to anyone and everyone.
Karen is survived by her husband, Harlan of Belmond; children Elizabeth (Seth)
Malek of Garner, Holden (Tracy) Tulp of Belmond, Kyle (Lindsay) Tulp of Belmond
and Heath (Brooke) Tulp of Kanawha; grandchildren Taryn, Rowyn, Harvick,
Tinsley, Huxyn, Hendrick, Karsen and Nora; brother Robert (Cindy Bloom) Hinckley
of Rochester, Minnesota and Thomas Hinckley of Alta, Iowa; along with numerous
nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws and many aunts and
uncles.
