Obituary


Karla Forbes, 60, of Eagle Grove passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion.

A Celebration of Life service for Karla Forbes will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, with Reverend Nikki Guiles officiating. Following the service, Karla’s family invites you to bring a dish to share for a potluck dinner at First Baptist Church, 1210 S. Commercial in Eagle Grove.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, February 26, 2016 at Ewing Funeral Home in Clarion, and will continue an hour prior to services at Ewing Funeral Home on Saturday.

Karla Delores (Stansberry) Forbes was born on December 6, 1955 to Harold and Phyllis (Reyna) Waddell in Clarion, Iowa. Karla grew up in Clarion and graduated from Clarion High School in 1974.

She then spent the next 20 years living in Des Moines where she met her husband, Donald Forbes. They were married on March 1, 2003.

Karla worked in different restaurants in the area gaining experience before opening her own. She and her family owned and operated Lakeside Café on Lake Cornelia.

She enjoyed spending time gardening, playing games, and listening to Elvis. She was known as the “neighborhood mom” and always had a smile on her face. Karla especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Karla is survived by her daughters, Nikki (Quenten) Guiles and their children, Wyatt, Chloe, Westin, Gaia, Athena, and Luna of New Providence, Iowa; Dorothy Stansberry (Russell Spencer) and their children, Dante and Jasper of Eagle Grove, Missy Barker of Appleton, Wisconsin; sisters, Elena Fairman of Fort Dodge, Marcy Powell of Davenport, and Tammy (Mark) Rizzio of Illinois; brothers, Harlan (Marlene) Waddell of Clarion, David (Nita) Stansberry of West Bend, Jim (Kathy) Loux of Springfield, Illinois, and John (Janette) Loux of Spearfish, South Dakota; along with many nieces, nephews, “neighborhood kids” and friends.

Karla was preceded by her husband Don Forbes in 2012, her parents, and her brother Buzz.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial in Karla’s name sent to Ewing Funeral Home, P.O. Box 363, Clarion, Iowa 50525.
