Obituary


Kathryn Jean (Den Hartog) Waddell, 59, of Clarion, Iowa passed away Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the John Stoddard Cancer Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral services for Kathy Waddell will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Clarion with Rev. Don Morrison and Rev. Ernest Baiotto officiating.  Burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion at a later date.

Visitation for Kathy Waddell will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 201 3rd Ave NE, in Clarion and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Kathy was born October 21, 1950 in Fort Dodge, Iowa.  She married her high school sweetheart, Harlan Waddell on June 27, 1970 in Clarion, Iowa.  To this union two beautiful children, Dee Dee and Spike, were born.

Kathy graduated from Clarion High School in 1969.  She started working at the Wright County Assessor’s Office as a clerk in July of 1974.  She held the position of Chief Clerk and Deputy Assessor.  Kathy became the Wright County Assessor in 1997 and retired in 2009.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.  Her hobbies included quilting, quilt retreats, looking for quilt shops when traveling, golfing, camping and spoiling grandkids.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Harlan Waddell of Clarion; children: DeDra Connelly of Lowell, Arkansas and Heath “Spike” Waddell and his wife Kimmy of Boone; mother Jeanette Den Hartog of Clarion.

Also surviving are sisters Susan Bateson and her husband Robert of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Karen Sage and her husband Sean of O’Fallon, Missouri, and Carolyn Hill and her husband Harlan of Fort Collins, Colorado; grandchildren:  Alexis “Lexi” and Zachary Connelly of Lowell, Arkansas and Coby Gideon of Boone; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Den Hartog; grandparents: Frank and Clara Prideaux and Jake and Merle Den Hartog; and nephew Jason Baiotto.
